Today we had the 30th annual road run and Chinese New Year Celebration. I left the hostel very early, walking to school and had morning assembly as usual. I didn't eat the siao breakfast before running because I didn't want to throw up during running.
We gathered at sports complex and waiting for the start of road run. Girls ran first. Then staff came next. When I finished warm-up at the back of the complex with Zhi Yang and JiaJin, Road Run for Girls had come to an end. Slowly, we guys gathered at starting point. Most of the TA people were standing in the very front. The teacher talked something, but I was not paying attention at all. I was waiting for the signal to start running. There it was!
We started to slow down after running a full round. It was not difficult to catch up with someone now because people were not packed in a limited area any more. I quickened my pace. Runners started to run out of college.
We were running on the path around the college.
The narrow path behind college. So narrow that could only allow two people running neck-and-neck. Sherman caught up from behind. Hills. Running more slowly. Saw Myran. Carry on running. Rushing down the hills. Turning right. Lameshyt, another hill. This one was steeper. Somehow I found it was not as hard to climb as last time. Left, and - downhill. Running past Ellery. Running on the flat ground - finally. The big tree. Turning left. Catching up with some JC people. Some of them caught up with me again. I ran faster. They ran faster. I tried again. They caught up with me again. I was running faster and faster while I competed with them. Turning left. This was the last part of the running. I just needed to follow the path and I would run directly back to the college.
Sounds behind. Turning around. Running faster. But not as fast as before. Struggling, I ran back to the college.
Running on the 400m track. Last 100m. Audience shouted something. Shimon was running right behind me. I tried to run faster, but no good.
The deciding 5 seconds. The struggling 5 seconds. Time seemed to be slowed down. Five seconds seemed to be eternity to me. Then time flowed faster. The next thing I realized was that we were both running directly towards the TA track. I came after Shimon. We reported together to the students in charge and sat on the benches. The 10 top runners were supposed to sit there, (including Sherman, Chang Long, Ernest, Nicholas Goh, Clarence, Shimon and me) The running was over. We high-fived. Drinking juice at the stalls behind and waiting for the result to come out.
