Day 1 (II): Miracle Occurred
Hmm, I shall continue the story of Day 1 (erm, Trinity prefers “event” rather than “story”) and emphasize more on the kindness of my seniors, especially my 15th Alpha HC seniors.
We went for a night expedition. In the jungle full of darkness, and, unknown. And then, as if the hours we spent in it were merely a split second, I saw the clear sky of the night again. The white moonlight was poured on the open area. The suffocating feeling was gone. I breathed the fresh air hungrily. On our way back, Cheryl said she was hungry. In the contrary, sleepiness was quietly crawling upon me. The whole House failed to catch the last bus, and hence we had to go back to school on foot. Beta, Gamma and Deltas all jogged back. We Alphas decided to brisk walk as some of our members were unfit for running and we were not going to leave them.
Dehydrated, we halted at Tampines Bus Interchange. The fourth time, amazingly, in this week. Many of us lay down to rest. I decided to rest back to back with Mat. Instead of resting, our kindhearted Alpha seniors bought mineral water for all of us. We passed down and drank sparingly. Injected with new energy, we were refreshed and continued our journey back. Many of us were struck by sleepiness and fatigue as it progressed. We were wearing out. We encouraged Cheryl and Teresa, who proved themselves later on. At the first part of the trek, Krystal led, who often looked back caringly. I was walking in an automatic manner with eyes half closed. Most of the times. In some occasion, I walked with my eyes fully closed. I either lean against the traffic light post or squatted while waiting for the light to change. The rest of my teammates did the same. Mei Yi touched my head while I was squatting to check if I was all right. I said yes, and was on my feet quickly, not willing to show my weariness. However, miraculously, I could feel I was slowly recovering from fatigue. Gradually, I had shook off the tiredness and walk, with my back straight, abreast with Tiong Wei, who was already walking in front of the line. It usually cost me a lot of energy to keep back straight. And I could afford it now. Soon, we approached Bedok area and was walking along the sidewalk near the College. From a distance, a cyclist was riding towards us. We instinctively gave way. But he spoke:
“Eh, all dao me arh?”
It was Teck Kian. He came to bring up the morale. The team started to be lightened up. Trinity also came. Both of them rode back and forth. Trinity rode a little a head of us, and waited there and had a really big yawn. When he saw us approach, he rode a bit more. Thus, we reached school by three.
