Gao Xing: “I thought I have forgotten the sensation that is used to flow through my body during basketball matches. It is a sense of flying, and it transcends everything else.”
----MVP Valentine
Since it was a Chinese drama, here is the original version:

高兴:“我以为,我已经忘记了在球场上那种自由自在,超越一切飞翔的感觉。”

Hoop today.

Kirk and I reached Bedok CC first. The badminton player was coaching me basketball while waiting for the rest to come.

We played half-court. On the other half, an old man was playing basketball. Okay, I’ll come to that later. Anyway, we mainly practiced shooting and lay-up. Nat came at nine plus, producing a second ball from his bag, and followed by Jia Wei, who carried a third ball. Four of us played three balls, and then Nat and I versus Kirk and Jia Wei. Our MEP tried wind mill style lay-up; We played until we were tired and Yi Heng came.

A father and his son, okay, or a guy and his younger brother – I am not sure about their relationships, because the guy was quite young for a father and was fairly old for a student. Anyway, while Nat, Kirk, Jia Wei and I were sitting on our balls (oh, one of us got no basketball, so one should be sitting on the ground), the big guy, the small boy, the old man I just mentioned before and Yi Heng, were playing hoop on the other half of the court. Guessing we would not have much fun to play among four of us, we decided to join them.

I thought we could surely win them easily, but during the game, they showed their toughness. Although all of us were going all out, we still bear in mind that one of our opponent was a sixty-year-old, and one was a primary school pupil. However, the “father” was as powerful as a bull and we all had a bit difficulty to deal with him. Still, I discovered that when he got the ball that accidentally slipped away from my hands, I have already entirely forgotten about the bull thing, but to try everything possible to compensate for my mistake. And sometimes I did succeed. Nat, Kirk and Jia Wei tried all their best to catch up the score, since the old man has developed a habit of reminding us the scores whenever someone scored. Similarly, cursing was in favour with the “father” when the ball missed the basket, or the badminton player intercepted his ball – nice one, Kirk.

We soon played with four secondary school students who just came. Ten minutes after the start of the game, I have known that among these people, there was one fast-dribble-r. And all of them were really good at passing the ball. Energy was running out of us; the new comers were winning. Still, having a good three-point-line-shooter, a rebound-er and an all-round basketball-er, we were catching up with them. Facing the fast-dribble-r, all we could do was to rebound the ball after he laying-up. The badminton player did everything he could to acquire the ball so that Nat could be able to shoot from outside the crowd. We played until twelve thirty, when exhausted Dota player, MEP, badminton player, Chinese orchestral instrument player and I left for Macdonald’s.

Maybe today, for me, is the first totally relaxed day for the whole year as ‘O’ Level was finally over and nothing much to worry about, for the time being. And I had fun, or had “fear” today. I am referring to the horror movie we have watched.

…“Spooky, thirty-two: use one-oh-five shells. Bring the rain.”
…the AC-130 gunship unleashed a six-thousand-round-a-minute storm of sabot rounds at the metallic shape clearly visible on the ground below…

This was where I stopped for my Transformers novel. Glancing at the alarm clock, I was alarmed as I did not want to be late and be waited for by everyone else. An anxious I sent a message to one of my friends who organized it, the message read: ETA (estimate time of arrival), 5 minutes.

Some of the guys were gathering at Golden Village, discussing which movie to watch. Soon the rest of the people, who just finished playing the LAN at Katong Mall as the former did, joined us. Decision seemed to be made and we took the tickets of a horror movie. Ten minutes before the show, I bought some token at the arcade. Without much time to play, I was only able to spend one coin before heading into the hall.

There were not many people (if not because of our arrival, I would have called them “a couple of people”) in this particular hall. Most of the seats were empty. For a moment I had a feeling that there were full of people in those seats, but apart from us, the rest were all invisible. Anyway, after occupying and settling comfortably in the centre section of the second and third last rows of the velvet seats, we started consuming the hotdogs, coke or popcorns vigorously. Typical cinema foods.

The show began. At first, our staccato laughter echoed in the relatively empty hall and comments like “it’s like bak kua eh” were really funny. But our attitude towards the movie changed as scary scenes turned up, and half of us shut our eyes or plugged our ears. What I did was to duck, whenever necessary, behind the seat in front, as if the seat itself, together with my “half watching” friend in it, could shield me from whatever in the show. Some did something similar.

We went to arcade after the show. I spend the rest of the tokens on a Jurassic Park shooting game with Zhi Hao and watched some of my friends played a quite exciting reaction game. It was in Cantonese, with instructions on the screen in traditional Chinese. And immediately everybody started to imitate the digital voice of the machine, which was explaining a game about making hamburgers in a hamburger shop, in Cantonese. It came to me again and reminded me that I am living in a multi-cultural place now. I have never been exposed to all these dialects before.

Anyway, as a respond to Glen’s suggestion of eating some “really stupid stuff”, seven people, including me, went to food court across the third floor of Tampines Mall. Part of the time during dinner was spent to discuss about the movie. It was later defined by us as a psychological movie.

Chatting with one of my friends through msn when I finally got back to hostel. It was quite enlightening.

Now is late. I guess I’ve got to grab some shut-eyes. Cheerio.
